This past week the Congressmen came back to their districts to try to sell the pork bill that they passed. Obviously they must be worried because I saw a number of them on the news telling of all the wonderful jobs this would create. To varying degrees every economist that has commented on the pork bill, H.R.1, has agreed on one thing, it will hurt not help the economy. Depending on the economist as to the degree it will hurt the economy.

Well I would not ordinarily comment on a vote for a compromise bill between the house and senate but the pork bill aka stimulus bill is an exception. The text for this bill was released Thursday between 11:00 and 12:00 P.M. The vote was set for 12:00 Friday, and with 600 plus pages there is no way for a congressman to read and comprehend all he is voting for. To vote for a bill that you do not know what is in it is irresponsible and a betrayal of the voters of District 4. So let me tell you what he voted for, bill cost $787 billion dollars of that $584 billion adds to the deficit by 2010, election year. DAVID VOTED YES ON THIS BILL. Obviuously David is more concerned about how Nancy Pelosi views him than what the voters think back home. Then he comes home to try and sell this as the creator of all these jobs and all the wonderful things it will do. Almost every democratic congressman voted for a bill that they had no idea what was in it, they should all be voted out of office for not doing the job they were sent to Washington to do. Hats off to Heath Shuler, a democrat that recognized the bill as a pile of pork and voted against it.

H.R. 448 the Elderly Abuse Victims Act sets up a study and grants for elderly victims of crimes. Not much here except it will set up some grants, I do not see any real problem here. DAVID VOTED YES.

This has been a pretty quiet week. The stimulus bill, aka pork bill, will most likely be passed. It will have little effect on the economy but it just will shovel huge money into government and out of the economy. Experts have said long range it will have a detrimental effect on the economy. That does not address the administrations movement to TRIPLE the trillion dollar deficit through governmental control of the economy.
The only bill of note is a bill requiring reporting of deaths to the attorney general that occur while suspects are in police custody. It has not raised any eyebrows at this point and looks rather harmless as no money is being spent.

This is the week that the new administration starts to get the pork bill, also known as stimulus bill, passed. Actually there will not be any stimulus from this bill except for the politicians and their pork projects. Rather than put the money into the hands of the taxpayers the administration is using this to put more power into the hands of the government. Rather than subsidize mortgage rates, auto purchases, and accelerated depreciation they have elected to grow government. As this unfolds you will see no real improvement. Perhaps four to five years down the road this money will be spent. Governmental groups have analyzed this bill and do not feel it will help the recession. It was passed today in the house. DAVID VOTED YES.
